Existing Lawn Removal
We start installations by removing approximately 1.5″ to 3″ of existing grass, roots, soil and rocks. Majority of the removal will be done with a sod cutter or skid steer, depending on lot size and accessibility.
Grass around sprinklers, patios, driveways, garden beds and trees is removed with hand tools to ensure nothing is damaged. All excavated material is then loaded onto our trailer or bin and disposed of off-site.
Topsoil Delivery
Unlike other landscape companies that used screened soil, we only use triple-mix soil. This blend of double screened weed-free soil, peat moss and compost manure provides optimal nutrients for the development of your new sod.
On average, sod installations will require 1 to 4 cubic yards of topsoil for every 1,000 square feet of area being sodded. The amount of soil can vary based on grade fixes and soil amendments.

Levelling & Grading
Having a level lawn is aesthetically pleasing, makes mowing and maintenance easier, creates a safe area for play and activities, and most importantly, allows for proper drainage away from buildings.
After spreading the triple-mix soil throughout, our crew levels out bumps, low spots and ensure 1″ to 2″ of topsoil coverage across the entire area being sodded. We then compact with a lawn roller.
Starter Fertilizer Application
This combination of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium gives your new sod the nutritional boost required for rooting and development of your new lawn. This fertilizer is applied prior to laying the sod.
We’ve tried and tested dozens of different starter fertilizers until finally finding the one that works best for our Kentucky Bluegrass and Tall Fescue sod grass. Every sod installation includes a full application.

Same-Day Cut Sod Delivery
Our Kentucky Bluegrass and Tall Fescue sod rolls come from turfgrass farms across Southern Ontario that are both NSGAO and TWCA certified. After an 18-month growing process, farmers will harvest in the early morning between 3 and 8 a.m. to ensure the rolls are ready for same-day delivery and installation at your property!
We guarantee that every sod roll is free from weeds and pests, tears and rips, root damage or thinning.
Sod Installation
“Greenside up” is a joke shared amongst landscapers, but there are crucial directions and patterns our sod installers follow to ensure no gaps or lines are left between rolls once your new lawn rooted.
Once the rolls have been laid out in a staggered pattern, we’ll make cuts around garden beds, patio, driveway, sidewalk, etc., and then compact the lawn with a roller for root adhesion and to remove any air pockets. Lastly, we give the sod a thorough watering.

Final Inspection
After all of the sod installation steps above have been completed, we bring our clients out to see the finished installation. If any questions or changes, our team will be happy to assist.
Lastly, we will go over proper watering, mowing and maintenance. It is very important that these instructions are followed carefully as sod is a living plant and is most vulnerable the first weeks after installation.
